Magnetic Resonance-Guided Focused Ultrasound Treatment System (ExAblate 2000)

1. Device Technical Features and Performance

Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound therapy utilizes ultrasound as an energy source. By taking advantage of the excellent penetration of ultrasound through the human body, the ultrasound waves generated by the transducer are focused on the lesion site, similar to concentrating solar energy on a focal point. This high-energy ultrasound creates cavitation in tumor cells, rupturing the cell membranes. At the same time, the energy released by the high-energy ultrasound quickly converts into heat, causing the temperature of the tumor tissue at the focal point to reach 60°C to 100°C. Under real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance and monitoring, the tumor is accurately ablated. Because the intense heat is only generated at the focal point, only the targeted tissue is damaged, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. After treatment, the necrotic tissue is gradually absorbed and metabolized out of the body.
