Cardiovascular Disease Rehabilitation and Prevention

On December 9th, Hainan Province Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation Forum and National Continuing Education Program "Cardiovascular Rehabilitation of Tumors" was held in Haikou.  Renowned cardiovascular disease expert Professor Hu Dayi, a leading figure in the field of cardiovascular medicine in China, the Chairman of the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, and also an academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, along with other renowned experts and scholars from both within and outside the province, gathered in Haikou to discuss advanced concepts, ideas, methods, and pathways for precision prevention and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease is the "No. 1 killer" of our population. The China Cardiovascular Health and Disease Report shows that the number of people suffering from cardiovascular diseases in China is about 330 million, and the morbidity and mortality rates are still increasing, and the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases are facing serious challenges.

In the face of the severe situation of cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment in China, Professor Hu has made many breakthroughs in the field of cardiology over the years, leading and promoting the construction and development of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation, and contributing significantly to the development of Chinas healthcare, medical education, and healthcare service industry.

For a long time, Professor Hu Dayi has been very concerned about and supporting the construction and development of cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation in Hainan. He believes that Hainans superior natural ecological conditions are very conducive to the treatment and rehabilitation of chronic diseases in different age groups, especially cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, respiratory diseases and tumor patients.

Professor Hu Dayi expressed his willingness to utilize his expertise and his team of experts in medical knowledge and research technology to help promote the development of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation in Hainan, aiming to jointly explore a cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation model and pathway that is unique to Hainan. This is especially important for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and cancer patients, where a comprehensive approach is needed to reduce the incidence of disease, support post-disease recovery, restore functionality, improve quality of life, and reduce the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events.

At the meeting, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center of Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital was founded and Professor Hu Dayi was hired as a special expert.

Professor Shi Yaohui, Secretary of the Party Committee, Executive President of Hainan Cancer Hospital and President of Hainan Chengmei Hospital, introduced that as early as 2021, Hainan Cancer Hospital became a "National Standardized Cardiac Rehabilitation Center Construction Unit", and under the leadership of Vice President Zheng Yin, it has carried out a number of cardiac rehabilitation programs such as oncology cardiorespiratory rehabilitation, stroke cardiorespiratory rehabilitation, cardiorespiratory rehabilitation for the elderly, metabolic syndrome exercise rehabilitation, and other cardiorespiratory rehabilitation programs.

In order to meet the peoples higher level of health service needs, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Center of Hainan Chengmei Hospital came into being and set up a comprehensive team consisting of relevant expert consultant group, cardiovascular medical group, nursing group, rehabilitation therapy group, cardiorespiratory exercise function assessment group, dietitian and psychotherapist, pharmacist and traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, providing professional cardiac rehabilitation diagnosis and treatment and health management services for heart disease and its post-surgery, obesity, patients with chronic illnesses and subhealthy people, as well as for patients with tumor radiotherapy, post-surgery, and escorting for the health of the whole population from the perspective of precision medicine.

Professor Zheng Yin, Vice President and Head of Cardiac Rehabilitation Center of Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital, stated that cardiac rehabilitation refers to a multidisciplinary and multi-technological collaborative approach that involves comprehensive intervention measures including medication, exercise, nutrition, smoking cessation, emotional, and sleep management. This approach aims to provide targeted, holistic health management for potential cardiac patients, cardiac patients, and cancer patients with heart disease from various angles and throughout the entire process. It can not only reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease, but also prolong the life of the patient, improve the quality of life of the patient, greatly reduce the cost of passive treatment, and reduce the economic burden on the family and society.

The forums on that day were fascinating. Professor Hu Daiyi shared his medical experience on the "Long March Road" of cardiovascular disease prevention and control. In his opinion, doctors are faced with patients in distress every day, only when they consider the interests of patients, all for the sake of peoples health, and treat patients with compassion and responsibility, can medical treatment return to the original heart and essence.

At the same time, he emphasized the importance of physicians establishing a habit of follow-up visits. He stated that even for hypertension, no patients are exactly the same, and prescribing antihypertensive drugs cannot guarantee that patients will achieve their target blood pressure levels without any side effects. Physician follow-up is an ongoing process of helping and caring for patients, being accountable to them, and constantly correcting errors and improving health care service.
