On January 15, Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital held a meeting on medical quality and safety management to summarize the medical quality and safety work in the past year and deploy the work in the new year.
Medical quality and safety is the cornerstone of hospital development, the lifeline of high-quality development of hospitals, and the eternal theme of hospital management. Fang Hong, Member of the Medical Quality and Safety Management Committee, Assistant Dean and Director of the Medical Department, briefed on the management of medical quality and safety in 2023.
During the past year, the Emergency Department, Outpatient Department, inpatient services, and medical examinations of the hospital have all experienced positive growth in terms of workload. However, the average cost per person and length of stay have significantly decreased compared to the previous year, reflecting the continuous development of hospital management and service levels. The hospitals level of specialized construction has been improved, with the development of new technologies at the provincial, municipal, and hospital levels. The introduction of renowned doctors and specially appointed experts has gradually formed a team effect, leading to an increase in the hospitals reputation and recognition. Various medical services have rapidly developed, and significant achievements have been made in terms of medical quality management. Monthly improvements in medical quality indicators, enhanced medical record documentation quality, gradual implementation of clinical pathways, and the normalization of multidisciplinary team(MDT) have been achieved. Medical safety has become a consensus, and patient quality, safety, and satisfaction have been continuously improved.
In addition, Member Fang Hong has deployed the Medical Quality and Safety Work Plan for the year 2024. It includes the formulation of hospital-wide goals for medical quality and safety operations, as well as a series of key work requirements such as strict implementation of core systems and strengthening the responsibility of administrators.
Xian Yushuming, Chief hospitalist of the hospital and Director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Infection Control, briefed on the hospitals efforts on infection management in 2023. Over the past year, the hospital infection control system has been improved, infection control operational standards have been harmonized, and a module for on-site monitoring and supervision of infection control workrooms has been established to reduce the risk of infection. The operational capacity of the hospital infection control team has been significantly improved, and significant achievements has been made on team building.
At the same time, Director Xian Yushuming deployed the management of hospital infection in 2024. He proposed the work goal of "emphasizing substantial results over formalities and focusing on ensuring safety."
Shi Yaohui, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive President of Hainan Cancer Hospital and President of Hainan Chengmei Hospital， delivered an important speech on medical quality and safety management work. He pointed out that as the hospital enters its ninth year of development, this meeting is a crucial one held during a period of rapid and high-quality growth for the hospital. He fully recognized the achievements of the two hospitals in the past year, saying that all medical data indicators and quality indicators have increased and improved, which is a testimony to the hard work of the staff of the two hospitals and also lays a good foundation for the future development of the hospitals.
"Healthcare quality and safety management is the lifeline of hospital development." Shi Yaohui repeatedly emphasized that tamping down the cornerstone of medical safety and building a solid defense of medical safety is the only way to promote the healthy, sustained and standardized development of hospitals, and to effectively protect the health rights and interests of the people.
For the future work, Shi Yaohui emphasized that it is imperative to promote the quality and safety management of hospitals with all efforts and continuous improvement. He demanded that the entire hospital must closely focus on medical quality and safety management work, with the resolute determination to never let go of their efforts. They must overcome difficulties and achieve set goals. Department heads should take proactive action and lead their teams to fully embody a spirit of collaboration, working side by side in the same "trench." They should strengthen their responsibilities, tasks, and collaboration, ensuring that all work is solid and meticulous. The concept that "management is service" should be continuously reinforced, with a proactive service spirit, assisting departments in decomposing and implementing various indicators and tasks. Using adverse events as a starting point, they should systematically solve the problems that are exposed one by one.
Shi Yaohui hopes that all hospital staff will unite their efforts, focusing on key tasks and objectives of the hospital, and gradually implement and advance them. This will comprehensively enhance the capacity of medical services, create a new situation of high-quality development for the hospital, and achieve mutual growth and progress between the hospital and individuals.
On the meeting, the list of members of the Healthcare Quality Management Committee was supplemented and adjusted and was approved unanimously by a show of hands.
