In the afternoon of March 15th, the air was filled with a sense of spring, and warmth enveloped everything. Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital Jointly Carried out Unpaid Blood Donation Activity

Blood is an indispensable medical resource and is of important medical value. Every year, there are millions of patients around the world needing blood and relevant products to save their lives. With the increasing demand for blood for medical use, it is urgent for the public to actively participate in unpaid blood donation to ensure adequate blood supply.

This blood donation activity received wide support from various departments of the hospital, which was actively participated by staffs from clinical, medical technology, nursing, administration, logistics, and other departments.

The author observed that the process of filling out forms, physical examinations, and blood collection were carried out in an orderly manner on-site. Inside the blood collection vehicle, there were not only "new faces" who were donating blood for the first time but also "veteran volunteers" who had participated in blood donation multiple times. Everyone carried a passionate spirit, rolled up their sleeves, and donated their warm blood, refuel life with love.

Vice President Liu Yuehong of the hospital took the lead and became the first person to finish the blood donation. "This is my fifth time donating blood." Speaking about voluntary blood donation, she had deep feelings: "As a healthcare worker, I can understand the importance of blood for life. Donating blood may be a small act within our capabilities, but it can save lives that cannot be undone."

Dr. Yang Shijie, a physician in the field of rehabilitation medicine, is a frequent blood donor. He has been donating blood for nearly 20 years, contributing 2-3 times per year, with each donation of 400ml. On the day of blood donation, however, Yang Shijie experienced an "unexpected" incident. Just as he was rolling up his sleeves to donate blood, he received an urgent phone call from an elderly patient in need. He immediately rushed back to the clinic to attend to the patient. After taking care of the patient, he returned to proceed with the blood collection. He stated that blood donation is a meaningful and honorable act. It not only helps others but also benefits ones own health. No matter how busy his work is, he is determined to continue donating blood, extending his love to others.

Currently, Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital are actively implementing "painless care". On the day of blood donation, the Nursing Department thoughtfully applies local anesthetics with analgesic effects to each blood donor to help alleviate the pain of blood collection. Zhu Fujuan, Deputy Head Nurse of the Cardiovascular Department at Hainan Chengmei Hospital, expressed that she used to have a great fear of needle insertion. However, this time, after the application of local anesthesia before blood collection, she truly felt a significant reduction in pain.

The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose. According to statistics, the total amount of blood donated on that day reached 13,500 milliliters. Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital have organized voluntary blood donation activities for several consecutive years. This not only demonstrates the good spirit and sense of social responsibility of our hospitals staff in serving the public, but also infects and encourages more people to understand and participate in blood donation activities, supporting and ensuring the availability of blood for clinical use with practical actions.
