Tumor prevention and control work has become a top priority in China’s public health field. In order to ensure the publics correct and scientific understanding of tumors, master tumor prevention and control knowledge, and establish the awareness that “everyone is the primary responsible person for their own health,” we will fully promote the development of tumor prevention and control in Hainan. Recently, the Hainan Tumor Prevention and Control Health Science Popularization Competition is launched, hosted by the Hainan Health Commission and the Hainan Science and Technology Association, and organized by the Hainan Health Education Center and the Hainan Tumor Prevention and Control Center. Now the Competition is collecting outstanding works of popular science featuring tumor prevention and control from the public.

Specific requirements are as follows:

I. Theme of the Competition

Create works around the prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of various types of tumor diseases.

II. Participants

Personnel from all levels of medical and health institutions, disease control centers, and health education institutions engaged in clinical, prevention, nursing, health care, and basic medical services, as well as social organizations and individuals who wish to promote the development of tumor prevention and control in Hainan, are eligible to participate.

III. Work requirements

(I) Categories

1. Graphic and comic category: including popular science articles, posters, foldouts (brochures, cards, bookmarks, single pages), and books (manuals, readers, books, albums, etc.).

The text of popular science articles should be entirely original, with a word count of 800-1500 words. Popular science book works should be formal and original publications with strong communication value in simplified Chinese. Series should be complete works, and individual volumes or partial works will not be accepted.

Image works should have a shortest side of at least 1000 pixels and be at least 1MB in size. Posters, foldouts, and other graphic printing works should have a resolution of 300dpi or higher, meet conventional usage requirements, and be submitted in JPG or PDF format. The text part should not exceed 1500 words, and images should not exceed 3. Comic works are limited to two forms: comic posters and hand-drawn webtoons.

2. Audio and video category: including public service advertisements, micro-videos, micro-films, animations, songs and dances, and situational plays. Audio should be submitted in MP3 format. Videos must have a quality of 1080P or higher, with reasonable composition, appropriate subtitles, and background music, suitable for secondary dissemination, and submitted as MP4 format files. The duration of short videos should be controlled within 5 minutes, and others should not exceed 15 minutes, with a file size not exceeding 1G. Video works should be uploaded to Tencent Video in advance, and the link should be provided when submitting the work.

(II) Submission requirements

1. All submitted works must be scientific and precise, and promote the audience’s voluntary healthy behaviors and lifestyles, without any promotional content for drugs, platforms, or other products.

2. The submitted works must be original and do not infringe on any rights of third parties, including copyright, portrait rights, name rights, privacy rights, etc. The creation time should not be earlier than June 1, 2023, and have not won awards in other public platforms or competitions in the province. If the submitted works or explanations violate laws and regulations or infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of third parties, resulting in any disputes, claims, lawsuits, etc., the author and the submitter shall bear joint legal responsibility, and the organizing committee, host, and co-organizers shall not bear any legal responsibility.

3. The competition does not require any fees. All submitted works will not be returned. The organizing committee has the right to use the works for public welfare promotion free of charge and display them on the websites, WeChat public accounts, video accounts, and Tiktok accounts of the host, organizer, and co-organizer.

4. The copyright of the submitted works belongs to the original author, and the winning authors are encouraged to use the title “Hainan Tumor Prevention and Control Health Science Popularization Competition Winning Work” to recommend and publish in the media.

5. The final interpretation of this activity belongs to the organizing committee, and the organizing committee has the right to adjust the competition rules as needed and announce them in a timely manner.

Note: Submitting works means agreement with the above terms.

(III) Submission methods

Each work must be submitted under one theme and category. Localities and organizations are requested to organize and mobilize relevant departments within their area and institutions, as well as self-recommending individuals, to submit works and scanned or PDF documents of the signed entry forms according to the requirements.

All works should be sent to the email address (hnszlyy2015@163.com). Relevant information about the competition will be posted through the “Health New Hainan” WeChat public account of the Provincial Health Commission. WeChat public accounts “Hainan Province Tumor Prevention and Control Center” and “Hainan Province Tumor Hospital” will simultaneously post related information.

(IV) Submission Time

April 25, 2024 - June 10, 2024.

IV. Prize Settings

This competition will award first, second, third, and excellence prizes to several winners (the specific number of winners will be determined by the organizing committee based on the number of works submitted).

V. Schedule Settings

1. Organize creation. Units, groups, and individuals should create works in accordance with the competition requirements and submit them after filling in relevant information.

2. Provincial Preliminary Evaluation. After the submission deadline, the Hainan Health Education Center and Hainan Tumor Prevention and Control Center (Hainan Tumor Hospital) will conduct an initial screening and review of all works to determine the list of works eligible for the final evaluation.

3. Provincial Final Evaluation. The expert jury panel of the competition organizing committee, composed of medical experts, well-known media professionals, etc., will conduct a provincial final evaluation of the eligible works based on rigorous and professional scoring to preliminarily determine the list of winning works.

4. Award Announcement. The list of winning works is scheduled to be announced before August, upon approval.

VI. Evaluation Settings

The activity will be conducted in a fair, open, and impartial manner. The winners will be selected through a combination of “online voting + judge scoring.” The online voting results will account for 10% of the score, and the judge scoring will account for 90%.

“Online voting” strictly prohibits vote-buying and other fraudulent behaviors; any such behavior will result in the disqualification of the work. The “judge scoring” will be conducted by a professional jury panel of authorities in the field of tumor prevention and control within the province, well-known media professionals, and professional video producers to select the finalists. The originality, scientificity, innovation, new media communication, fun, and artistry of the works will be the basis for the judges’ judgment.
