Typhoon Arrival

In addition to guarding against strong winds and heavy rain

there are risks of waterlogging and geological disasters

Its crucial to maintain health protection at all times

After the Typhoon: Avoid Disasters and Disease

Focus on these aspects

Avoid wading in rainwater and strengthen skin protection

Prevent prolonged immersion of hands and feet in water, keep skin clean and dry as prolonged immersion can cause severe skin damage and infections.

If foot skin breaks and worsens, avoid water if possible. Those with foot skin conditions should avoid entering contaminated water, which can provoke skin diseases, especially various fungi, leading to immersion dermatitis, eczema, and athletes foot.

After being wet by rain, promptly wash with clean or purified water indoors, especially those with open wounds or athletes foot should be extra cautious.

Increased Risk of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases

Before the typhoon, with lower atmospheric pressure and higher humidity, and stronger typhoons leading to lower central pressures, decreased pressure may affect oxygen supply, causing symptoms like chest tightness, breathlessness, palpitations, and fatigue.

The periods before and after a typhoon are peak times for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Patients and the elderly should be extra vigilant, ensuring adequate sleep, maintaining stable emotions, following medical advice on medications, and increasing monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate. Seek medical attention if discomfort arises.

Prevent Intestinal Infectious Diseases, Avoid Spoiled or Contaminated Food

The rainy and humid weather during a typhoon is conducive to the growth of intestinal pathogens and molds, easily triggering intestinal infectious diseases and foodborne illnesses. Consuming spoiled or contaminated food or water can lead to food poisoning, dysentery, and diarrhea.

It is advised not to drink raw or unsanitary bottled or barrelled water, avoid using dirty water to rinse or wash fruits and vegetables; do not consume spoiled or deteriorated food, properly store food, and avoid eating leftovers, raw or cold food; avoid consuming drowned, sick, or dead poultry, livestock, and aquatic products; separate raw from cooked food; ensure utensils are clean and disinfected before use; and avoid purchasing food from vendors without a sanitary permit.

Finally, a Reminder

On typhoon days

if not necessary, try not to go out

Pay close attention to your own and your familys health

At any time

Safety is most important!!!
