From fear of report cards in childhood
To fear of physical exam results in adulthood
It’s undeniable that as people reach middle age,
The courage to open a physical exam report
Is often bolstered by Liang Jingru’s songs.
Breast hyperplasia, liver cysts,
……
Uterine fibroids, cervical erosion...
Looking at the medical jargon on the physical exam report,
How many people have been frightened to the point of losing their appetite and sleep?
Jin Hong, Director of the Health Examination Center at Hainan Chengmei Hospital, states that some of the so-called “abnormalities” in physical exam reports actually do not require excessive intervention or treatment. Regular follow-ups as per doctors advice are sufficient.
Thyroid Nodules: 95% Are Benign
Many people have a psychological shadow when it comes to the word “nodule,” fearing it may develop into cancer.
In reality, many people have thyroid nodules. With the rapid development of ultrasound technology today, even nodules as small as 3 millimeters can be detected!
If the thyroid nodule is smaller than 1 centimeter and there are no compressive symptoms, there is almost no need for concern. For nodules exceeding 1 centimeter, regular follow-ups every 3 to 6 months as per doctors advice suffice.
Uterine Fibroids: Mostly Benign
Uterine fibroids are also frequent visitors in gynecological exams. Statistics show that about 20% of women over 30 have uterine fibroids. Most uterine fibroids are benign, with a malignancy rate of less than 1%.
For uterine fibroids smaller than 5 centimeters without obvious symptoms, only regular follow-ups are needed, without special treatment. As women age, especially after menopause, uterine fibroids tend to shrink naturally.
Once the number or size of uterine fibroids exceeds a certain standard, doctors may recommend surgical removal.
Cervical Erosion: A Normal Physiological Phenomenon
Some female friends see the word “erosion” and imagine some terrifying pictures in their minds.
Please pay attention however !
The medical term for cervical erosion is “cervical ectropion.” Most women with cervical erosion experience epithelial ectropion due to hormonal influences. Once hormone levels stabilize, the so-called “erosion” will improve. Cervical erosion of Grade 1 does not require treatment, but Grades 2 and 3 may require treatment based on TCT results and clinical symptoms.
Sinus Arrhythmia: Not a Disease Manifestation
Most sinus arrhythmias are respiratory in nature, which is a normal physiological phenomenon and does not require treatment.
Additionally, factors such as mental stress and vegetative nerve dysfunction can also cause sinus arrhythmias, which do not require treatment.
Breast Hyperplasia: A Normal Physiological Phenomenon
Breast hyperplasia is one of the most common issues found in womens physical exams. It is related to endocrine disorders and hormonal imbalances and usually does not develop into breast cancer.
If breast tenderness and lumps appear before menstruation and gradually disappear after the menstrual cycle, this is breast hyperplasia caused by physiological factors. As women age, their estrogen levels decrease, gradually improving the condition.
It’s worth noting that if the lump becomes harder over time and the tenderness does not subside, it is necessary to seek medical attention for further examination and treatment.
Pelvic Fluid: Don’t Panic if Less Than 3 Centimeters
Pelvic fluid is merely a phenomenon, not a disease. Normally, the body secretes some fluid, which usually serves to lubricate and protect the pelvic and abdominal organs and tissues.
Almost every woman has pelvic fluid to varying degrees. Less than 3 centimeters can be considered within the normal range. During ovulation, menstruation, or just after menstruation, the amount of fluid may increase slightly. However, if there are no other uncomfortable symptoms, treatment is not required.
Pelvic fluid may also appear when there is inflammation in the abdominal cavity, usually accompanied by lower abdominal discomfort, lower back pain, abdominal pain, etc. In such cases, it is necessary to seek treatment at a formal hospital.
Chronic Superficial Gastritis: Just Indigestion
Many cases of chronic superficial gastritis reported in gastric endoscopy are actually functional dyspepsia or non-ulcer dyspepsia, rather than indicating true chronic inflammation of the gastric mucosa.
Chronic superficial gastritis, also known as non-atrophic gastritis, is a typical type of chronic gastritis with a detection rate as high as 80% to 90%. It is related to alcohol consumption, bile reflux, coffee, and Helicobacter pylori infection.
Although no treatment is required, it still necessitates increased attention. Maintain a proper diet, keep a joyful mood, undergo regular gastroscopy examinations, and avoid progression to atrophic gastritis.
Hepatic Cyst: Not a Tumor
Some people mistakenly believe that a cyst is a tumor upon hearing the term. In fact, cysts and tumors are entirely different!
Hepatic cysts are common benign liver diseases, and most are non-inherited congenital lesions. They do not affect liver function, nor do they develop into cancer. They grow very slowly and exhibit no obvious symptoms. Without a physical examination, many people may never discover them in their lifetime.
Hepatic cysts smaller than 5 centimeters and without obvious symptoms do not require treatment and only need to undergo ultrasonic re-examination every six months or a year.
Of course, if the hepatic cyst exceeds 5 centimeters or causes compression, secondary infection, or bleeding, prompt medical attention is required, and surgical removal may be necessary if indicated.
Expert Reminder
When these diseases are found during a physical examination, do not panic or become overly anxious. Correctly understand them, follow the doctors advice, and undergo reasonable treatment and management. Meanwhile, maintaining good living habits and a healthy mindset is crucial for preventing and controlling diseases.
