On July 23rd, the first Intestinal Microecology Diagnosis and Treatment Center and Intestinal Microecology Clinical Research Center in Hainan were inaugurated at Hainan Chengmei Hospital. This marks a crucial step forward for our province in the specialized diagnosis and treatment of intestinal microecology, and will provide more professional and standardized services for patients with intestinal microecological disorders.

Studies have shown that the human intestine is home to 100 trillion microorganisms, including over 4,000 types of bacteria. Imbalance of the microbiota not only causes digestive system diseases such as diarrhea, constipation and enteritis, but may also lead to systemic health problems in cardiovascular, neurological, immune and other systems, and is even associated with cancer risk. With the development of fecal microbiota transplantation technology, its value in the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases in disciplines such as gastroenterology, endocrinology, pediatrics, oncology, neurology and psychiatry, as well as rheumatology and immunology, has become increasingly prominent.

At the unveiling ceremony, Professor Yu Shuyong, the president of Hainan Cancer Hospital and Hainan Chengmei Hospital, stated that the official establishment of the two "centers" is not only an important measure to enhance the hospitals comprehensive medical strength but also a powerful guarantee to provide patients with higher-quality medical services. As an important participant in the medical and health industry of Hainan Free Trade Port, the hospital hopes that through the construction of the Intestinal Microecology Diagnosis and Treatment Center, it can attract more high-end medical resources to gather in Hainan and enhance Hainans influence in the national and even international medical field.

Professor Zhao Xinkai, the vice president of Hainan Cancer Hospital and the director of the Intestinal Microecology Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Hainan Chengmei Hospital, introduced that the center will be based on the concept of integrated medicine, with the patient at the center, and implement a diagnosis and treatment model of "multi-disciplinary integration and joint management". It will carry out new clinical diagnostic techniques such as intestinal barrier function assessment, fecal microbiota analysis, and intestinal microbiota analysis, as well as new treatment techniques such as fecal microbiota transplantation through the lower digestive tract, formula probiotic capsules, and multi-dimensional microecological nutritional intervention. The service scope covers patients in multiple fields including digestion, cardiovascular, nervous system, oncology, immunity, infectious diseases, and dermatology.

At the same time, the Clinical Research Center for Intestinal Microecology was established, marking that the hospital will, on the basis of strengthening clinical diagnosis and treatment capabilities, simultaneously enhance its scientific research and innovation strength, and actively promote basic and clinical research related to intestinal microecology.

Hainan Chengmei Hospital has successfully completed dozens of cases of intestinal flora transplantation before. The technical operation is safe and mature, and has been widely recognized by patients.

Case of Fecal Microbiota Transplantation

Ms. Li has been troubled by insomnia for many years and has tried various treatment methods, but none of them have been effective. After learning that there might be a connection between gut microbiota and sleep, she received fecal microbiota transplantation treatment. After a period of treatment and monitoring, Ms. Lis sleep quality has significantly improved. She now falls asleep more easily at night and has a longer sleep duration, greatly enhancing her quality of life.

Xiao Li, a 20-year-old, often suffered from diarrhea and flatulence due to irritable bowel syndrome, which caused him great psychological stress and seriously affected his work and life. Despite seeking treatment from various sources, his condition did not improve, leaving him extremely distressed. However, after undergoing intestinal flora transplantation treatment, his symptoms quickly subsided, relieving him of the troubles in both his life and work.

The hospitals leaders, Yang Shufen, Zhou Weiping and Zheng Yin, along with the heads of relevant departments, attended the unveiling ceremony.
