March 12, 2026, marks the 20th World Kidney Day. This year's theme is: "Kidney Health for All: Caring for Life, Protecting the Planet.".

To further enhance public awareness and attention to kidney diseases, on the morning of March 12th, the Nephrology Department of Hainan Chengmei Hospital, in collaboration with the Urology Department of Hainan Cancer Hospital, conducted a free clinic activity in the outpatient lobby of Hainan Cancer Hospital, providing free medical services and professional guidance on kidney health for the general public.

The free clinic was meticulously set up with multiple service areas, including consultation, blood pressure measurement, radiographic diagnosis, and science popularization. It provided comprehensive and intimate services to the public, covering free consultation, physical examination, blood pressure testing, interpretation of kidney disease radiographs, as well as consultation on kidney health knowledge and popularization of daily kidney care tips. It effectively answered questions related to kidney health for the public.

Professor Chen Wen, Director of the Nephrology Department at Hainan Chengmei Hospital, leveraged his extensive clinical experience to impart valuable kidney care insights to the audience. He emphasized that the kidneys possess a remarkable compensatory capacity, and early-stage kidney diseases often exhibit no noticeable symptoms. Consequently, many patients are diagnosed with advanced kidney diseases, highlighting the importance of regular physical examinations, including urine routine and renal function tests. Additionally, he kindly reminded the audience to limit salt and sugar intake, maintain a regular sleep-wake cycle, and avoid holding back on urination in daily life. Patients with hypertension and diabetes should strictly manage their underlying conditions and avoid abusing nephrotoxic drugs, laying a solid foundation for kidney health from the details of daily life.

Ms. Wang, a citizen who came for consultation, brought her physical examination report and listened carefully to the expert's explanation throughout the entire process. She said with emotion, "My elderly family members have hypertension, and I have always been worried about kidney damage. Today, I happened to catch this free clinic. Not only did I get a free blood pressure measurement, but the expert also taught us one-on-one methods for controlling blood pressure and protecting the kidneys. He explained the details that are often overlooked in a clear and practical manner. I gained a lot from this!"

At the event, the expert team remained patient and meticulous, answering various kidney health questions from the public one by one, providing personalized diagnosis and treatment suggestions based on clinical cases, and promptly correcting misunderstandings about kidney care among the public. At the same time, the experts actively advocated for a green and low-carbon lifestyle, guiding the public to practice the spirit of this World Kidney Day theme and jointly protect their own health and the health of the planet.
