Hypertension is a common and frequent disease that endangers national health and is a risk factor for the occurrence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Since its founding in the 1970s, the World Hypertension Alliance has been dedicated to the prevention and treatment of hypertension and has designated May 17 as World Hypertension Day to better raise awareness of hypertension on a global scale.

In the "World Hypertension Day" health education activity, Executive Director Wu Zhiyong, Vice President Zheng Yin of Hainan Chengmei Hospital, and other well-known provincial specialists of cardiovascular disease and geriatrics disease, Cardiology Director Lin Xiaoming, Nephrology Director Chen Wen, Director Dai Wenxin from the Geriatric Medicine Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Center and Chinese medicine physician Hu Zhiqiang and other multidisciplinary experts were providing medical consultation. Through one-on-one, face-to-face health consultation, they offered guidance on antihypertensive treatment plan and self-management of hypertension, in order to popularize scientific knowledge related to the prevention and treatment of hypertension.

Grandma Li, who is over 80 years old, came to the spacious and beautiful outpatient hall of Hainan Chengmei Hospital early in the morning accompanied by her family to participate in the health education activity. Grandma Li said she had previously been hospitalized at Hainan Chengmei Hospital and was discharged not long ago, and was impressed and quite sure of the meticulous and thoughtful service and the high level of medical expertise here. As soon as they learned that the hospital was going to hold a health education activity for Hypertension Day, eight people including her whole family and a group of friends came to the hospital to see a specialist.

After carefully asking about the past medical history, Zheng Yin patiently explained to Grandma Li and her family about the prevention and treatment of the disease, and gave detailed scientific and reasonable suggestions in terms of treatment and medication.

On the other side, Ms. Han, who is in her prime, came to the event for health consultation, for she was feeling unwell due to long-term hypertension. Ms. Han said that although she is only in her early 30s, her chronic obesity and hypertension have had many negative effects on her body. At the worst time, her blood pressure reached 220mmHg, but she took medication under the guidance of Zheng Yin, and her blood pressure dropped to 140/100mmHg. Today, with the holding of the activity, she would like to consult how to take medicine treatment for the next step.

In Ms. Hans case, Zheng Yin encouraged her to continue to lose weight, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and keep her blood pressure within the normal range through her own regulation with medication, so as to better protect the functions of her heart, brain, kidney and other organs.

After listening to Zheng Yins advice, Ms. Han confessed that she had not paid attention to self-management of hypertension, which had led to recurrent blood pressure and anxiety since then. Now, after the experts careful guidance and knowledge dissemination, she has deepened her understanding of hypertension and dispelled her worries and fears about the disease.

Zheng Yin introduced that there are more than 245 million people suffering from hypertension in China. Chinas hypertension population is huge, but the awareness rate of hypertension only reaches 51.5%, and the treatment rate is 41.6% and the control rate is 16.9%. Furthermore, there are also misconceptions about hypertension, such as reluctance to take antihypertensive medication, refusing to taking medication if there is no bad feelings or symptoms, stopping medication when blood pressure is normal, and not taking medication under medical advice.

Zheng Yin stressed that hypertension is a "silent killer" of health, if not Cherished in time and left to develop naturally, it will significantly accelerate the process of atherosclerosis and increase the risk of stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure and kidney failure. In addition, even if there is no symptom, the damage to the patients organs is persistent, and must be Cherished in time and as early as possible.

Zheng Yin also reminded that the prevalence of prehypertension in young people in China is 41.9%, its about 150 million people. It can be seen that hypertension is no longer a disease of the elderly, which is showing a trend of development in younger people.

Zheng Yin pointed out that the emergence of hypertension is closely related to young peoples bad habits, such as staying up late, unhealthy diet, high mental pressure, obesity, etc., which may lead to hypertension. She suggested that in daily life, people can actively prevent hypertension by low-salt diet, less smoking and alcohol, moderate exercise, weight control, stress management, regular sleep and other healthy lifestyles.

In front of the Chinese medicine consultation table, Chinese medicine expert Hu Zhiqiang felt the pulse for patients, and popularized scientific lifestyle to patients to prevent the occurrence of hypertension.

Hu Zhiqiang introduced that Chinese medicine emphasizes the overall adjustment, in the treatment of hypertension, doctors will pay special attention to the patients physique, mood, etc. He suggested that in addition to drug treatment, people should start with lifestyle and emotional adjustment in daily life, and combine acupuncture, acupoint application, guidance and other treatments to assist blood pressure reduction. Through the overall adjustment and the regulation of organs, the body would recover to the state of Yin-Yang balance, thereby improving the treatment efficiency of patients, shorten the treatment cycle, significantly improve the prognosis, so as to offer patients with double benefit.

On the same day of the health education activities, we also distributed hypertension prevention and treatment manuals and conducted on-site education on "how to self-measure blood pressure and detect high pressure", "self-management of hypertension" and "adherence to long-term treatment" to help people enhance their understanding of hypertension and reduce knowledge blindness and misconceptions, which was well received by everyone.

Wu Zhiyong said, during the health education activity, through the joint education of traditional Chinese and western experts, with multi-level and all-round positive science popularization, they further enhance the peoples health awareness of "Self-management, prevention first, make blood pressure reduction reach standard", and strive to improve the peoples health literacy, effectively enhance the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as hypertension, so as to make patients and their families truly benefit.
