"This patient cannot leave, she must be treated immediately!"

Recently, at the Emergency Medicine Department of Hainan Cancer Hospital/Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Hainan Medical University, faced with an acute myocardial infarction patient who presented with chest pain but insisted on being transferred to another hospital for treatment by "seeking acquaintances," Deng Chun, the director of the Emergency Medicine Department, remained resolute and decisively "kept the patient," successfully saving the patient's golden rescue time.
Woman with chest pain for over an hour insisted on "transferring to another hospital"
At noon on the day of the incident, a 56-year-old patient, Ms. Zhao, was sent to the Emergency Medicine Department of Hainan Cancer Hospital due to sudden chest tightness and chest pain that persisted for one and a half hours without relief.
The attending doctor, Yu Huanglong, promptly conducted a thorough examination. The electrocardiogram and various indicators revealed "acute anterior wall myocardial infarction" - the most important blood supply vessel of the heart, the left anterior descending artery, had been severely blocked, and cardiac arrest could occur at any time due to extensive myocardial ischemia.
The patient's condition was critical, and the hospital immediately activated the emergency and critical care consultation mechanism. After on-site assessment by Deng Chun, director of the Emergency Medicine Department, and cardiology experts, they unanimously agreed that a cardiac intervention surgery must be performed immediately.
However, the patient, not fully aware of the severity of his condition, insisted on being transferred to a hospital where she had acquaintances.
"Being tough" in retaining employees is responsible for life
"Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases can change rapidly, and emergency treatment for acute myocardial infarction (MI) brooks no flukes or delays. No one can predict what will happen to an MI patient in the next minute. If an emergency arises during transportation and the on-board emergency conditions are limited, the consequences would be unimaginable." Upon learning of the patient's thoughts, Director Deng Chun was resolute: "This patient cannot leave, she must stay!"
Faced with the patient's stubbornness, Director Deng Chun repeatedly and patiently analyzed the pros and cons for him, emphasizing the golden rule of myocardial infarction treatment: time is life, and nearby treatment is the primary principle. With Director Deng Chun's intervention and repeated persuasion, the patient finally agreed to stay in the hospital for treatment.
Open the green channel to race against death
The hospital immediately activated the emergency green channel, quickly completed preoperative assessment, and accurately assessed the patient's cardiac function status. However, just as the medical staff was transferring the patient to the operating room and preparing for the surgery, a dramatic scene suddenly unfolded - the patient suffered from sudden malignant arrhythmia and ventricular fibrillation, and his heart stopped beating instantly!
Amidst the critical situation, the on-site medical staff responded swiftly and promptly implemented emergency defibrillation. Leveraging their proficient professional skills, they successfully reversed the dangerous situation with a single defibrillation, restoring the patient's heartbeat. Immediately afterwards, Director Lin Xiaoming and Doctor Zhou Suping of the Cardiology Department performed precise operations, successfully completing the dilation of the blood vessel and stent implantation. This cleared the blocked anterior descending artery, effectively resolving the myocardial infarction crisis.
Thanks to timely rescue, the patient did not suffer any sequelae after surgery, and all indicators gradually returned to normal. She can resume normal life in the future. "I really got a new lease on life," said Ms. Zhao. After regaining consciousness, she was still shaken up by the experience of cardiac arrest and expressed deep gratitude to Director Deng Chun and all the medical staff who had "saved" her.

"We often say that every successful treatment not only saves a life, but also preserves a complete family," Director Deng Chun said frankly. In the "window" position of emergency department, one must dare to take responsibility and make decisive decisions.
The only 120 emergency station on the west coast builds a lifeline

As the only directly affiliated 120 emergency station in the west coast area of Haikou City, the Emergency Medicine Department of Hainan Cancer Hospital/Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Hainan Medical University undertakes the core task of daily medical support and emergency and critical care treatment in the region.
Currently, our hospital has established a comprehensive emergency system integrating pre-hospital emergency care, in-hospital emergency care, and emergency wards. Leveraging the hospital's robust multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment platform, we are equipped with the capability to provide coordinated treatment for various critical illnesses such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular emergencies, severe trauma, and respiratory critical illnesses.
Director Deng Chun also used this case to remind the general public: when treating acute myocardial infarction, it is essential to follow the principle of "seeking treatment nearby". Do not waste precious rescue time during the transfer process due to subjective factors such as "seeking acquaintances" or "choosing hospitals". Time is myocardial tissue, and time is life.
